YOUR PRIVACY AT A GLANCE

Shoptiko Eyecare collects only the personal information reasonably required to operate our online eyewear business, process and deliver orders, provide customer support, maintain account security, prevent fraud, improve our website and—with your consent—provide marketing and personalized advertising.

We may collect:

  • Contact, account, order, shipping and payment-related information.
  • Eyewear prescription information that you choose to submit.
  • Communications you send to us.
  • Information about your device and use of our website.
  • Marketing preferences and advertising interactions.

We use service providers such as Shopify, payment processors, shipping companies, analytics providers and advertising platforms. Some providers process information outside Canada.

We do not sell or rent personal information for money. Advertising and analytics partners may receive online identifiers and website-activity information when permitted by your consent and applicable law.

You may request access to or correction of your personal information, withdraw consent where applicable, or make a privacy complaint by emailing hello@shoptiko.ca.

1. ABOUT THIS POLICY

This Privacy Policy explains how 2260221 Alberta Inc., operating as Shoptiko Eyecare (“Shoptiko,” “we,” “us” or “our”), collects, uses, discloses, retains and protects personal information when you:

  • Visit or shop through shoptiko.ca and its associated webpages;
  • Create or use a customer account;
  • Purchase eyewear or related products;
  • Submit eyewear prescription information;
  • Contact customer service;
  • Subscribe to emails;
  • Participate in a promotion, survey or review; or
  • Otherwise interact with us online.

This policy applies to personal information under our control. Third-party websites and services have their own privacy practices, and we encourage you to review their policies before providing information.

2. WHAT PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT

The information collected depends on how you interact with Shoptiko.

Contact and account information

This may include your name, email address, username, account credentials, billing address, shipping address and any optional contact information you provide.

We use this information to create and administer accounts, communicate with you, provide customer service and complete transactions.

Order and transaction information

This may include products ordered, purchase history, billing and delivery details, discounts, returns, refunds and transaction status.

Payments are processed through Shopify and authorized payment providers. Shoptiko does not ordinarily receive or store complete payment-card numbers.

We use transaction information to process payments, fulfill orders, manage returns and warranties, issue confirmations and invoices, maintain financial records, prevent fraud and resolve disputes.

Prescription information

When you order prescription eyewear, you may provide information such as:

  • Sphere, cylinder, axis, addition or prism measurements;
  • Pupillary distance;
  • A copy or image of an eyewear prescription;
  • Prescriber information appearing on the prescription; and
  • Other information necessary to prepare the eyewear you order.

We treat prescription information as sensitive personal information. We collect and use it only to validate, process and fulfill your prescription-eyewear order, answer related questions, maintain legally required records and provide services you request.

Submitting prescription information to Shoptiko does not create an optometrist–patient relationship. Shoptiko's e-commerce services do not replace an eye examination or advice from a qualified eye-care professional.

We will not use prescription information for interest-based advertising.

Customer-service and communication information

This includes the content of emails, chats, requests, reviews or other communications, together with any attachments or information you choose to provide.

We use it to respond to inquiries, resolve concerns, administer orders and improve customer service.

Website, device and analytics information

When you use our website, we and our service providers may automatically collect:

  • IP address and approximate location;
  • Browser, device and operating-system information;
  • Language, time-zone and regional settings;
  • Pages, products and searches viewed;
  • Referral URLs;
  • Shopping-cart and checkout activity;
  • Date, time and duration of visits;
  • Cookie and similar technology identifiers; and
  • Interactions with our website, emails and advertisements.

We use this information to operate and secure the website, remember preferences, understand website performance, prevent fraud, improve products and services, measure advertising and—where consent permits—personalize content or advertising.

Marketing information

This may include email-subscription status, consent records, communication preferences and interactions with promotional messages.

  • Promotional emails about products, offers or Shoptiko news where you have consented or where otherwise permitted by law.

You may unsubscribe from promotional emails using the link included in the message or by contacting hello@shoptiko.ca. Unsubscribing from promotional emails does not prevent necessary transactional or service communications.

3. HOW WE COLLECT INFORMATION

We collect personal information:

  • Directly from you when you place an order, submit a prescription, create an account, contact us or subscribe;
  • Automatically through cookies, pixels, log files and similar technologies;
  • From payment, fraud-prevention, shipping and technical service providers;
  • From advertising or analytics partners when permitted; and
  • From other sources when authorized by you or permitted by law.

We will seek additional consent before using personal information for a materially different purpose unless otherwise permitted or required by law.

4. HOW WE USE PERSONAL INFORMATION

  • Provide products and services you request;

  • Prepare prescription eyewear using submitted prescription information;

By voluntarily providing information needed to complete an order, you consent to its use and disclosure for fulfillment and related business purposes. We seek express consent where required, including for sensitive or non-essential uses.

You may withdraw consent by contacting us, subject to reasonable notice and any legal or contractual restrictions. Withdrawal may prevent us from providing certain products or services—for example, we cannot prepare prescription eyewear without the required prescription information.

You can also manage eligible cookies through the cookie controls provided on our website or through your browser settings.

6. COOKIES, ANALYTICS AND ADVERTISING

Cookies and similar technologies help the website function, maintain carts and sessions, remember preferences, analyze traffic, prevent fraud and measure or personalize advertising.

Advertising and analytics providers may receive online identifiers, IP address, device information, pages or products viewed, shopping activity and advertising interactions. We do not intentionally provide eyewear prescription information to advertising platforms.

You may reject or withdraw consent for non-essential cookies using available website controls. Browser settings may also block or remove cookies, although doing so can affect website functionality.

Browser “Do Not Track” signals are not interpreted consistently across the industry. We respond to legally recognized consent and opt-out mechanisms where required.

  • Shopify, which hosts and supports our e-commerce store;
  • Payment processors and financial institutions;
  • Shipping, delivery, order-fulfillment and returns providers;

  • Email-distribution services;
  • Analytics providers, including Google Analytics;
  • Advertising platforms, including Google Ads and Meta, where consent permits;
  • Professional advisers such as accountants, insurers or legal counsel;
  • Government, regulatory, law-enforcement or judicial authorities when permitted or required by law; and
  • A purchaser, successor or adviser involved in a proposed or completed business transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality and legal requirements.

We require service providers to use personal information only for authorized purposes and to provide appropriate safeguards.

8. INTERNATIONAL PROCESSING

Shoptiko is based in Alberta, Canada. Some service providers may process or store personal information elsewhere in Canada, the United States or other jurisdictions.

Information processed outside your province or Canada may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction and may be accessible to courts, law-enforcement agencies or other authorities in accordance with local law.

Shoptiko remains accountable for personal information under its control and uses contractual, organizational and technical measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.

9. RETENTION AND DESTRUCTION

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • Fulfill the purposes described in this policy;
  • Provide requested products and customer support;
  • Maintain transaction, tax, warranty and business records;
  • Resolve disputes and enforce agreements;
  • Prevent fraud and security incidents; and
  • Meet legal and regulatory obligations.

Retention periods vary according to the information and purpose. When information is no longer required, we securely delete, destroy or anonymize it in accordance with our procedures and applicable law.

A request for deletion may be limited where retention is required by law or reasonably necessary for an ongoing transaction, fraud prevention, dispute or legal claim.

We maintain reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. These may include:

  • Secure Shopify and payment-processing systems;

Prescription information receives protections appropriate to its sensitive nature.

No online service or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. Contact us promptly at hello@shoptiko.ca if you believe your account or interaction with Shoptiko has been compromised.

11. YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS

Subject to applicable law and permitted exceptions, you may:

  • Ask whether we hold personal information about you;
  • Request access to that information;
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • Withdraw consent to eligible uses;
  • Change marketing or cookie preferences;
  • Ask questions about our use of service providers outside Canada; and
  • Make a complaint about our privacy practices.

We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before responding. We will not request more identification than reasonably necessary. We will respond within the period required by applicable law or advise you if additional time is permitted and required.

12. CHILDREN

Our website is intended for adults purchasing eyewear products and is not directed to children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without appropriate consent from a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate consent, contact us at hello@shoptiko.ca.

A parent or guardian purchasing eyewear for a child should submit only information reasonably necessary to fulfill the order.

13. NO SALE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

Shoptiko does not sell or rent personal information for money.

When permitted by consent and applicable law, advertising partners may receive limited website-activity information and online identifiers for analytics, campaign measurement or personalized advertising. You can control eligible disclosures using our cookie controls and the provider controls identified above.

14. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this policy when our services, providers, technology or legal obligations change.

The effective date at the top identifies the current version. If a change is material, we will provide appropriate notice and obtain additional consent where required.
